Product FAQ's

Q: Why use rubber straps to hang AR500 steel targets?

A: Multi-ply rubber straps are extremely durable and can withstand repeated direct hits while keeping your steel target securely mounted. They are a great choice for shooters who want a durable alternative to chains, especially when mounting target plates that require two hanging points. Compared with chains, straps generally withstand more direct hits, while chains allow more free movement and produce a louder audible report.

Q: How do I assemble and attach the rubber straps to my steel target?

A: 3/4" wrench is required for installation. Insert the carriage bolt through your AR500 steel target plate, then tighten one nut directly against the plate. Thread a second nut onto the bolt, leaving enough room for the remaining hardware. Install the components in this order: washer → rubber strap → washer → final nut. Tighten the final nut until the bolt threads extend fully through the nut.

Q: What angle should I hang my steel target?

A: For proper steel target setup, the plate should be angled downward toward the ground. The included extra-long Grade 8 bolts allow you to adjust the target angle, with a 20-degree downward angle recommended. This helps direct bullet fragments toward the ground while allowing the target to react when struck.

Bash Target Supply offers the most durable AR500 shooting target hanging kits on the market. Our kits come complete with Grade 8 bolt kits. Grade 8 bolts are the hardest commercial bolts available. Other kits use Grade 5 or lower, those just won't last causing a frustrating day at the range. Whether you choose our Grade 80 chain kit or our 3/8" thick multi-ply rubber straps you will not be disappointed, both offer fantastic hanging solutions. Straps can take more direct shots than chains, but, our Grade 80 chains can take a beating. Chains give you a louder report and allow the target to swing more freely. Chains vs Straps really comes down to personal preference. Other kits use Grade 43 or lower chain, those are just not suited for shooting target applications and will break if hit even once. No one wants to fuss with broken bolts, chains or straps at the range. For flawless range days, choose Bash Target Supply hanging kits.
