What target configurations work best with the 991 Center Mass Stand?
The TargetStand 991 Center Mass 2x4 features a classic, highly adaptable H-base configuration. It is engineered to securely hold a single vertical 2x4 wood post, making it the perfect foundation for hanging any size AR500 steel target plates using a Top Post Hook or Top Post Angle Mount. It is also the explicitly recommended base station for mounting our Expandable 2x4 Dueling Tree systems or our 2x4 Spinner systems. This stand is .50BMG rated.
What is the maximum width adjustability of the 991 Center Mass Base?
Our commercial-gauge base tubes can adjust out up to a 24-inch wide base layout. This expandable design gives you total control over the stand's width footprint, allowing you to maximize cross-bracing stability on uneven range terrain or outdoor soil.
What specific lumber and materials do I need to buy locally to finish the stand?
To finish assembling your 991 Center Mass platform, you will just need to provide three pieces of standard 2x4 wood studs: one vertical upright post cut to your preferred target height, and two matching pieces of 2x4 lumber to serve as the horizontal ground legs for the base frame. Sourcing these heavy lumber studs locally keeps our manufacturing costs low and your initial shipping weights completely free of bulk charges. We suggest vertical 2x4 height of approximately 5’6” +\- to get your target at roughly head height. Pay particular attention to your back berm height for safe shooting. The legs are very stable between 30-36” for any caliber.
Are tools required for quick field setup at the range?
No, the 991 Center Mass Stand is built with tool-free range deployment in mind. The structural brackets feature heavy-duty stainless steel hand set screws. You simply slide your vertical and horizontal 2x4 lumber legs directly into the zinc-plated steel housings, tighten the set screws firmly by hand, and your shooting base is rock-solid and ready to go in seconds.
What caliber limits can this single vertical post stand handle?
Our thick-walled steel tubes are built to withstand the standard abuse of high-volume ranges. When paired with appropriate AR500 target plates placed at safe shooting distances, the stand framework easily supports impacts from all standard centerfire handgun calibers, shotgun slugs, and any big-bore rifles including .50BMG without cracking or twisting.
